The Colombian women’s peace organization, “La Ruta Pacifica de las Mujeres” (“The Peaceful Path of Women”), presented the results of their three year long “Truth Commission” this Thursday in Bogota.
The group, which has been working since 1996 for a peaceful resolution to the country´s decades long conflict, embarked on the project with the goal of bringing to light how the conflict has affected women in particular. At a time when peace talks are taking place in Havana, Ruta Pacifica wanted to bring more women into the dialouge.
The national coordinator of the organizatin, Marina Gallego, said today that what makes their study different than others is that it is based in the testimonies of women and as such, it is a statement from the base of communities.
The Ruta Pacifica has been supported in this endevour by the United Nations as well the governments of Spain, Sweeden and non governmental organizations such as Oxfam.
